The rain rain rain came down down down
This guy is as close as we get to a Pooh bear story and it probably isn't our wombat. Our neighbor took this picture. Amazing that it was that close to their deck and that it was out in daylight. Also unusual in that it does not seem to be mange ridden. It is possible it lives in our paddock but it is spending more of its time by their house - but probably not.
We do have some photos of our wombats but they tend to be shyer than the one above. This one couldn't be bothered to go into his den as we drove in.
And this one is a bit more red than most - he has obviously spent some time in the red clay! Yes, the image is blurry. You are just seeing how fast it is moving...
It has definitely been a few days that Roo would claim fits his song:
The creek has risen noticeably but not about to come over its banks. Just a nice level of water.
Once the rain let up, the birds came out in force. We saw lots of our regular friends but also heard (Erin) and then saw (Scott) glossy black cockatoos. We have had the yellow tailed cockatoos but hadn't found the glossy blacks on our property until this week. Unfortunately, the lighting has been more challenging for pics so pulling these out of the files.
The yellow tails fly overhead every morning about tea time in a flock of 5 (ish) birds. They make their presence known with loud screeches.
We also managed to see the lyre bird on this evening's walk. It was late in the day and in a denser part of the scrub so this is what the camera saw
Here is what wikipedia says they look like
With the rain, we got some time to work on the house projects. That means the puzzle is coming along well! But we are proud of this family history picture wall:
It includes pictures of Guelph (where we met) and of St Paul, as well as images of the kids and our wedding day. [The photographer chose black and white because he was really good at it; we were in the court house so it did work well.]Saw two of those folks from the pizza night again the next day. One works at the post office and one we saw at the chain saw repair place in Bega. Bega is about 45 min south of us so seeing said neighbor was a bit of a surprise. It is a more distributed community than was Roseville. Since it can be a distance to the grocery store, the pub here also serves as an emergency source of bread and milk, houses a laundromat, runs a hotel and the camping ground and even has the bottle recycling center. Plus they have live music weekly. Apparently, chain saw repair places are another great place to meet up with folks!
