This Little Piggy Had Roast Beef

Image
I spent last week in Sydney as part of the site visit team for Sydney U vet school. I did have roast beef for dinner a couple of times! I didn't really go to market but figured it would be rude to suggest Scott was a little piggy, even though he did stay home.  I am still an AVMA site team member so help ensure that the AVMA accredited schools are meeting the standards agreed to. Schools get reviewed every 7 years. Now that I am in Australia, I get fewer options but Sydney was a good fit. Sydney also gets reviewed by the local group (AVBC) and by the British group (RCVS) since they do have students from Australia, NZ, North America and Britain. The AVMA requires summary documents with 100 pages of reading and 100 pages of tables max. The other groups have different formats and requirements. Putting them all together made for a heck of a lot of reading and triangulating. After doing that initial reading, we asked for even more reading. Finally, we go on site, talk to everyone...

방문하다- A different way to spell visit

Image
I promised more on Korea so we will mostly leave the birds behind for this post as I have lots of pictures to share. The picture above is the first official night of our visit. I went as part of the COE (Council on Education) site team visit as part of the accreditation of Seoul National University's College of Veterinary Medicine. Each college that is accredited by the AVMA and by the Dept of Education gets a similar review at least every 7 years. SNU is the only accredited college in Asia, not to mention in Korea. It is one of ten colleges in Korea and the accreditation status lets its students practice in the US/Canada after passing NAVLE and state boards vs taking other longer and more expensive paths to practice. It isn't used much in that regard but does give the college a special level of esteem.   Our team are the center group bookended by women. So two SNU folks on left side, then 7 of us, then three SNU folks on right. The SNU folks are the dean and associate deans. ...

Wee willie wagtail

Image
Alternate title : shake your booty! There are a couple of birds that are not shy about dancing around in front of the camera. Dancing mostly involves shaking their tails around. The willie wagtail has a great sound and can be found in trees but mostly he is quiet and closer to the ground.  The grey fantail (US translation: gray fantail) is often fluttering among the branches but loves to be in front of the camera.  Some favorite shots: Willie wagtail singing Wagtail dancing his heart out Grey fantail giving the camera the eye Grey fantail caught in flight with tail fanned Grey fantail doing a cyborg impression  Its a cooler, blustery day so catching up on computer work. I am still doing accreditation site visits and have been getting my homework done for a trip to Seoul as well as some light house work and laundry. We did go for an early morning walk but the birds were either up earlier or slow to rise today. Sunday here and close to school holidays so PP is filling...
