Lest we forget

Today is ANZAC (Australia and New Zealand Army Corps) Day, a day of remembrance for the entry of Australia, New Zealand and Tonga into World War I at the Battle of Gallipoli. There are parades, sunrise services, memorial services and days off (Friday and Monday for many folks). We went to Moruya on Thursday and the stores were packed. We were there to pick up antigen for my Q fever skin test. We are considered higher risk (veterinarians with sheep and lots of kangaroo poop around in the gardens) and can get vaccinated; but the vaccine can be nasty if you are already exposed. The antigen was on back order for awhile and I had to go get it within a week of their getting it. Hence the trip to the pharmacy in Moruya.

We snuck into the Tool Library yesterday (they got a grant to have a few trailers of tools that you can "borrow" or "rent" for a few days. We got lots of fencing equipment and a trailer so that we could lug the non-working riding lawn mower into the shop.

We managed to use the fence wire strainers to load the lawn mower into the trailer. Quite creative, I thought. Unfortunately, we disconnected without a pic of the process.

Remember, Scott isn't supposed to be pushing or lifting due to his new pacemaker. I took this pic when we reached a bit of a standstill and when I was ready to tag the neighbors to stop by. Scott realized there were some bolts dragging and I was fighting those with my pulls. Once we levered things up enough to get the bolts above the ramp, moving the mower went way better! We even got the lawn mower back to the shop before they closed.

We spent the rest of the afternoon playing with water tanks (emptying some and filling others) in preparation of more tank moving. Fire fighting training was the evening event. Since they are trying not to run the trucks (limited expensive diesel), we had training designed for us beginners. After some basic theory of fire suppression, we played scavenger hunt and used standpipes (connect to water mains).

Today was real fencing with the tools. We want to move the sheep after their deworming but the paddock that would best needed some fence repairs. We put up two new wires on the creek and neighbors side of the paddock. Scott took this pic of me threading the wire on the latter side.

Scott probably did more than he should have but we took a ramp to move the wire into the truck bed and we made Betty (the truck) move us around. I also got to play with my power tools to remove some the heavy duty grasses and tree branches. More to do tomorrow. Apparently we can do this because we have a long weekend. Not quite sure what Scott meant by that since we are retired but maybe that we can't do much on the other fronts until the workmen come back and clean up things for the cement tank.

Sheep training is going pretty well but we haven't pushed them yet. They do all go into the run to eat their hay!

In the breaks, I did manage to finish the latest puzzle! It had random weird shaped pieces (often with mostly straight edges). Took me quite some time to get it done!

Our bird pics didn't turn out too well as I switched the camera to macro for this cutie (eastern dwarf tree frog) hanging out in the agapanthus.

Here is a picture of the wedge tailed eagle that was taken earlier in the year. Aka the reason we should not get a small dog. However, not even the wedgies are taking the mini dachshunds up the hill from us!
